Fashion Designer, Visual Artist.
Penny Singer is from the Navajo Nation. She graduated from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Where she studied photography and film documentation. She incorporates photos transferred on to fabric making one of a kind award winning garments.
Singer uses bold Navajo weaving designs, the landscape from her ancestral homelands and references sculptural storytelling through body, form, and movement. Her couture line references stories told to her using wearable art fashion as my canvas in motion through visual dynamics.
Singer continues to expand and widen the definition of what Indigenous designs are and therefore using fashion to reclaim culture with Indigenous perspectives. Singers, work is a fusion of fashion for all peoples and generations who appreciate Indigenous fashion.
"The fabric is my canvas, the thread is my paint and the embellishments are my texture."
